COOLSCULPTING

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive treatment for body contouring that works on the principle of cryolipolysis. The fat cells beneath the skin targeted to be cooled, causing them to crystallize and undergo programmed cell death. The skin, blood vessels, and nerves are not affected. Over time, the body processes the affected fat and eliminates the dead cells, resulting in a more sculpted body contour.

The CoolSculpting procedure is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of the abdomen, flanks, inner thighs, outer thighs, and under the chin. Ideal candidates can achieve a reduction of approximately 20% of fat in the areas treated. The procedure requires no incision or needles. No anesthesia is necessary, as there is only a sensation of mild tugging. Each treatment takes approximately one hour and patients may rest comfortably in the office while the CoolSculpting applicator is applied. Patients may return to normal activities immediately.

Results may be seen as soon as four weeks following treatment, and are most remarkable approximately two to four months later. The same site may be treated multiple times if desired.
Complications are uncommon. As an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Blechman takes a conservative and educated approach to CoolSculpting, and will discuss in detail all the risks, alternatives, and benefits prior to the procedure.
