BREAST LIFT SPECIALIST PLASTIC SURGEON UPPER EAST SIDE NYC and LOS ANGELES

A breast lift (referred to as a “mastopexy”) is a cosmetic procedure performed by our plastic surgeons to reposition sagging breasts by trimming excess skin and re-suspending the breast tissue. These techniques also raise the position of the nipple and areola, and altogether produce a more naturally youthful contour to the breast. For some patients, mastopexy is combined with a small breast reduction to improve the overall aesthetic result.

Please note: To provide a more streamlined and convenient process, ALL consultations are scheduled virtually.

During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss your desires and expectations with you and an individualized plan tailored to your needs will be explained.

“Dr. Blechman and his team made the whole process of surgery super smooth from consultation to post op. Using insurance for top surgery can be a big headache, but his team navigated it all for me and I couldn’t be more grateful. Quick responses from his team whenever I had questions, amazing bedside manner, and attentive follow-ups. The whole crew over there is super LGBT friendly and made me feel super comfortable throughout the whole process. I cannot recommend Dr. Blechman and his crew enough!” ~ Google

There are multiple options the plastic surgeon has for where to place a mastopexy incision, the choice of which is based on the patient’s breast size and to what degree they sag referred to as ptosis (pronounced ‘toh-sis’). The incision may partially or completely encircle the areola, with or without a vertical extension down towards the base of the breast (creating a lollipop shape), or possibly with an additional incision within the fold underneath the breast (creating an anchor shape). The procedure lasts approximately two to three hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Patients return home the day of surgery.

Bruising and swelling are normal and may take a few weeks to resolve. There are no drains and all of the stitches are beneath the skin and do not need to be removed. Patients are permitted to walk and return to their activities of daily living immediately following surgery, however, strenuous exercise and heavy lifting and pulling should be avoided for two weeks. Patients typically return to work that doesn’t require manual labor in about a week. It takes about one to two months for patients to feel like they’re able to get back to their preoperative activity level.

During surgery, a special technique called a nerve block will be performed, which places long-acting anesthetic medicine along the rib cage. This eliminates the need for postoperative prescription-strength medication.

Major complications and postoperative emergencies are uncommon. Our surgeons take a conservative and educated approach to breast lift surgery and will discuss in detail all the risks, alternatives, and benefits prior to performing surgery.

Cosmetic liposuction of the chest can be added to a breast lift. This will enhance the breast aesthetics by helping to flatten the rolls on the sides of the chest and helping to sculpt a more rounded and symmetrical breast shape.

Health insurance plans will not cover a breast lift unless it is part of a medically necessary breast reduction.
