During your gynecomastia plastic surgery consultation with the board certified Upper East Side NYC plastic surgeon, Dr. Keith Blechman, he will discuss your desires and expectations with you. Measurements will be taken and an individualized plan tailored to your needs will be explained.

Gynecomastia refers to enlarged or excess male breast tissue and fat. Various medical conditions or medications may be responsible for it, however, sometimes no known cause is identified. Gynecomastia can impart significant feelings of self-consciousness, making a trip to the beach or changing in a locker room very uncomfortable. The goal of male breast reduction surgery is to remove glandular tissue (and in some cases excess skin), resulting in a flatter, firmer chest with an improved and more naturally masculine contour.

Dr. Blechman was superb with extensive research and careful advice. His questions about my medical history were extensive and he provided guidance with several options. He is a most impressive physician. ~ ZocDoc

Surgical techniques to perform male breast reduction usually rely on liposuction, direct surgical excision of breast tissue, or a combination of both, with or without excess skin removal. Oftentimes, scars are minimal. The procedure is performed in the hospital under general anesthesia and takes one to two hours. Patients return home that same day.

Following surgery, an elastic garment is snugly placed around the chest and worn continuously for about one month. Bruising and swelling are normal and may take a few weeks to resolve. Patients are permitted to walk and return to their normal activities the day after surgery, however strenuous exercise should be avoided. Patients typically return to work in a few days. Most patients experience a renewed sense of self-confidence following the procedure.

Complications are uncommon. As an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Blechman takes a conservative and educated approach to gynecomastia surgery and will discuss in detail all the risks, alternatives, and benefits prior to performing surgery.
